Permeable Pavers

Permeable Pavers

Frequently, environmentally friendly products are being introduced and utilized in our transitioning Green society. It is not a coincidence that permeable pavers are under the category of environmentally friendly products, and are the number one choice on the market today for surface paving. Permeable pavers have gained popularity in our transition to greener days because they aid in preventing stormwater runoff, a common problem in many developed cities and towns. Stormwater runoffs are a silent contaminator of the main resource we depend on daily—water. Polluted stormwater that does not absorb into the ground becomes contaminated and eventually enters our water sources. It erodes streams, degenerates environments and pollutes drinking water. Surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and streets that are paved with concrete or asphalt are impervious, or impenetrable, unable to allow water to naturally soak into the ground. ing.

Permeable Pavers Outlast Other Alternatives

It is important to recognize the difference between concrete or asphalt and permeable pavers. Visually, concrete, asphalt and permeable pavers are all colored to indicate pedestrian routes, direction of traffic and parking spaces, but the finished product with permeable pavers is much friendlier to the eye. While concrete and asphalt is more durable to heavy traffic and weight loads, it also becomes damaged more quickly. Cracks in concrete and asphalt can only be patched, not entirely replaced or repaired. Permeable pavers interlock and are laid in grid patterns and designs. This makes it possible to replace single pavers and leave the entire area looking brand new.

Eagle Bay carries several different lines of environmentally friendly pavers. The SF Rima line is a highly ecological choice for paving. They are the number one solution to stormwater runoff problems. They are highly effective in providing permeation at the spot, allowing rainwater to pass through joints between the pavers, eventually absorbing into the ground. Another option in permeable pavers is Turfstone. This paving system provides a simple solution for pedestrian or low-vehicular-use areas, through which grass or moss can grow. However, TurfStone differs from other varieties of permeable pavers because they are porous, which varies slightly from permeable pavers. Like permeable pavers, they control erosion, stabilize soil, and prevent stormwater runoffs. These porous pavers, like Turfstone, have holes in the center of each paver that may be filled with vegetation or aggregate. They provide the same stormwater runoff prevention as the SF Rima pavers, but tend to be suited for more residential areas.
